When does your child need a crown?
When your child has a milk tooth with a deep cavity affecting the upper part of the dental nerve, it may become necessary to perform a partial nerve treatment. Owing to the specific anatomy of milk teeth (short distance between the external tooth structure and the voluminous milk tooth nerve), such treatment can be necessary to preserve the tooth for a long time.
Therefore, there are cases in which the destruction of a tooth has reached a stage in which a conventional filling therapy is no longer enough. In such situations, your pediatric dentist from Wiesbaden can insert a prefabricated milk tooth crown to functionally stabilize the tooth in the oral cavity. The objective is to allow your child to keep using the tooth for chewing and the development of the bite can continue until the tooth is lost.
What crowns are available?
There are silver pediatric crowns (also called steel crowns) for children’s teeth fully covered by statutory health insurers. As an alternative, ceramic crowns can also be used with private supplementary payment.
In the visible front teeth area, we use only ceramic crowns or Frasaco plastic crowns to meet high esthetic standards. In addition, ceramic crowns that can also be selected can be used as an additional private service.
