Dental fillings for children
A cavity can cause small holes in the tooth, among other things. At DentiMeer, we can fill these with well tolerated and inconspicuous materials.
When are dental fillings needed and what are they good for?
Dental fillings are used after carefully removing cavities in order to close dental defects. In this way, they protect the sensitive area on the treated tooth. At DentiMeer in Wiesbaden, we only use high-quality plastics (composites) and glass ionomer cement. Amalgam is not used.
A cavity (tooth decay) is caused by bacteria that destroy the dental structure, ultimately leading to holes in the tooth as well. In many young patients, the close arrangement of their teeth leads to hidden cavities between them.
This shows the importance of regular check-ups and early treatments with suitable filling materials in our DentiMeer pediatric dental office. If left untreated, the cavity will penetrate deeper and deeper into the tooth.
What kinds of dental fillings are there?
In case there is a cavity defect on a tooth, a corresponding necessary treatment that can include the following materials is used:
- Glass ionomer cement (GIC): This material has a slightly yellowish tinge and limited shelf life. It consists of glass powder and acid and sticks well to the tooth. Thanks to its fluoride content, it also contributes to cavity prevention.
- Plastic/Compomer: Plastic is very stable and can be “fixed” well to the tooth.
- High-quality (layered) plastics/composites: The plastic, characterized by long-lasting resistance, is attached to the tooth. The filling can be easily polished, has the color of the tooth and has a smoother surface compared to GIC fillings.
We will gladly provide advice before the treatment starts. The recommendation for your child depends on the individual finding and is therefore discussed in person to you. This is when we will explain to you what services statutory health insurers will cover.

Do you need dental cement?
Here we will briefly explain to you when you’ll need dental cement:
Tooth monsters become very strong after eating a lot of sweets and can therefore build big houses in your tooth and this is where you will get holes in your teeth. To stop your teeth from being destroyed even more, we at DentiMeer can repair the holes, and the dental cement will go where the holes used to be.
